On 21st of August 1986, 1,746 villagers surrounding Lake Nyos were tragically found killed by a mysterious disaster. A limnic eruption occurred that released a mass amount of invisible gas, later discovered to be carbon dioxide. Here is that story with two experiments that help explain what took place. One experiment shows what happened on land and the second experiment examines what took place in the lake and how the CO2 built up. The video concludes by discussing the effort in place to reduce the likelihood of this happening again. There is a great deal more to be said about this event. Many villagers were displaced by the incident and many cattle and animals were killed. I would encourage you to search up the event. Read some papers.
